Some people are naturally organized and always seem to have things in order. Others are just like us in every way: they are often late, often lose things, often forget important dates, etc. But even though it’s hard to change these bad habits, it’s not impossible to get rid of them and get your life in order. Here are some easy things you can do to get your life back on track in a few weeks:
Cut Back On Unnecessary Activities
Spend a few days writing down everything you do and how long you spend on each thing. Look at the list and see if there are things you can cut out of your life that aren’t doing you any good, like watching TV, scrolling through TikTok, and going to get food when you already have food at home. Check out how you can cut down on these distractions and spend more time on things that really matter, like spending time with family and friends, focusing on your career, and taking time to think about your life.
Prepare For The Following Morning
If you’re always rushing around in the morning because you overslept or forgot to do something important, get ready for the next day the night before. Our “evening selves” are very self-centered and would do anything to be comfortable. But that’s not good for our “morning selves.” You can get your mornings more calm and organized by getting ready for work, making breakfast, starting the coffee pot before you wake up, etc. All of this should take you no more than 15 to 20 minutes, but it will help you so much in the morning.
Organize Your Space
Even if you take care of your work and social obligations in a responsible way, that doesn’t mean that everything else in your life is in good shape. Stress, overwork, and sometimes just laziness make it hard for many of us to keep our homes clean and in order. Well, you could buy a new closet to get your house back in order. For example, Australians have learned that walk-in closets are much easier to keep clean, so they are buying them all over the country. Check out the most common walk-in closets and think about getting one for your home. This way, you’ll have a lot more room for your things and a simple way to hide any mess. It’s also a good idea to clean up your space well and put the things you want to keep in easy-to-use storage bins.
Write Things Down
You’re just fooling yourself every time you think you’ll remember to do something. Don’t miss out on great chances because you forgot to write down reminders. Get a small notebook to write down important things like your work schedule, errands to run after work, social obligations, etc. You can even use this book to write down your ideas.
Give Yourself Some Buffer Time
It’s important to have some downtime between work and home and back again. If you work from home, you can use this time to get to and from work, grab a salad on the way home, or drive by a park. When you work from home, it’s harder to keep work and life separate, but it’s not impossible. Many people find that taking a short walk after work and before settling down to relax helps. Or, you can meditate lightly for 10 to 15 minutes. Checking social media for a few minutes is a much less healthy habit, but it also works.
Take The Day Off
This could be a pricey investment for many people, especially if you’re a business owner or a freelancer. But once you see how this investment pays off, you’ll feel much better about the money and time you “lost.” What you can do to relax and tame the crazy is take one day a week to do absolutely nothing – no work, no errands, no forced social obligations. This day off will help you relax both physically and mentally, give you time to think about the future, keep you balanced, help you face reality, and make you feel better.
All of the tips above seem pretty simple, but you need to pay a lot of attention to them. But if you stick with it for a month, you’ll form good habits that will bring order, peace, and wealth into your life.
