Even though it’s hot in the summer, this is when you can find tasty fruits that are hard to find at other times of the year. Here are five delicious seasonal fruits that provides amazing taste and nutrition to keep us cool and refreshed.
1. CHERRIES:
- Peak Season: June – August.
- Claim To Fame: A wonderful way to satisfy your sweeth tooth.
As a dietitian, I’m often asked if there’s any health benefit to eating more servings of fruit because of the concern about sugar. One of the lowest fruits in terms of glycemic index, cherries are a rich source of nutrition and flavor while having a lower influence on blood sugar levels than higher glycemic fruits. In addition, cherries are a good source of natural melatonin (especially in the tart form), which can help insomniacs catch some slumber-inducing components.
2. PAPAYAS
- Peak Season: May – July.
- Claim To Fame: Known for being a sweet and tropical fruit, papaya is also called “the fruit of angels”.
Papaya is a powerhouse for vitamins and minerals that may help protect against a number of health conditions. Vitamins A, C, B1, B3, E, K and potassium are all included in papayas, making it the ideal food to keep your body running. In addition, if you’re trying to lose weight, consider including this simple fruit, which contains only 43 calories per 100 grams.
3. Star Fruits
- Peak Season: August – March
- Claim To Fame: Its name says everything: star shape.
Carambola is another name for this tropical fruit, which is native to Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, and China. It gets its name from the fact that its star shape makes it easy to spot in fruit salads, but you can also eat it on its own for a healthy dose of vitamin C. Sauces and jams can be made with it as well.
4. Watermelons
- Peak Season: May – August
- Claim To Fame: sweet and refreshing low calorie summer snack
Watermelon is considered the ultimate summer fruit for good reason. Aside from its vibrant colors and delectable flavor, watermelon contains 92 percent of water, making it the most hydrating fruit in the world. Watermelon is also an excellent diet food because it contains fewer calories than most other fruits while providing the same digestive and immune benefits.
5. Grapes
- Peak Season: August – October

When you think of vitamin C, you may tend to think of oranges as a good source. However, did you know that grapes are a great source of vitamin C as well?
